In December 2010, the Oregon Immunization Program announced funding availability for communication projects to increase healthcare worker influenza vaccination rates. One-time Public Health Emergency Response funds provided a total of $50,000, with a $10,000 maximum individual grant amount.
The grants focused on development of communication or media products to motivate healthcare workers to protect their patients, co-workers, families and themselves by receiving annual influenza vaccines and by raising public and provider awareness of the seriousness of influenza disease.
Seven projects were funded; the Deschutes, Linn, and Multnomah County Health Departments, the Silverton Hospital Network, Legacy Healthcare, the Oregon Nurses Association and Tillamook County General Hospital.
